Summer Tennis Camps at UMW

The University of Mary Washington is hosting tennis camps for players ages 5-18 throughout the summer.  You can find more information on dates, costs, age groups, etc...at  www.umwtennisacademy.com .  There is unlimited space with our 18 courts, but camps will be primarily indoors.  Hope you can take advantage of some of these opportunities!

Another Season in the books

Marcus played a hard hitter from Bruton in the first round of the Regional Singles tournament and fell 6-0 6-1.  Marcus and Miguel face the same player and his partner in doubles and fell  6-1 6-2.

Reminder:  The Spring Sports banquet is tomorrow, Wednesday, May 29 @ 6:00.  Please bring a dessert to share!  See everyone there!

Cougars fall to Jamestown

The Boy's ran into a strong Jamestown team who finished first in their District.  The Boy's played well and made them work to earn their victory with many games going to duece.  It was a very successful season qualifying for Regionals as a team, #1 singles and #1 doubles.  The Spring Sports Award banquet will be on Wednesday, May 29 @ 6:00

Regional Information

Both the Boy's and Girl's are playing Jamestown. 

 

Boys will play at Lafayette HS - 3 pm

 

Girls will play at Jamestown - 3 pm

 

The schools are about 5 to 10 mins apart. 

 

Both teams will ride the same bus -  departure time from school is 11:15 am, I will meet you inside near the main office.  Wear BLUE.

 

Bring some money for meals.  We may stop for both lunch and dinner.  Bring some snacks as well.  It will be a long bus ride so bring something to occupy your time.

Cougars move on to Regionals!

The Boy's  came out ready to play and deafened Chancellor 5-2 yesterday to claim a spot in the Regional tournament.  We will most likely travel to Jamestown HS in Willliamsburg on Monday, May 20.  Updates will be posted as information comes in.

District Team Match

We will play at Chancellor tomorrow (May 16).  Meet at the stadium at 2:45.  Match to start at 3:30.

Congratulations to Marcus and Miguel for winning in doubles today 6-2 7-6 (7-3).  This win qualifies them for the Regional Tournament on Monday, May 27 at Jamestown HS.

District Singles and Doubles Tournament update

Congratulations to Marcus for qualifying for the Regional Tournament at Jamestown HS in Williamsburg on Monday, May 27.  Marcus won a grueling 2 set match that ended with a 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) score!  He began cramping immediately after the match ended and the doubles match had to be postponed.  Marcus and Miguel will  play this match tomorrow at the conclusion of the JM match with a chance to qualify for  the Regional Tournament with a win.  We leave at 2:45 so be there at 2:30!! On Monday, Marcus lost to Easternview in a 3 setter 6-2, 2-6, 3-6 and Marcus and Miguel lost to JM 6-3, 6-1.

Spotsylvania Middle School

SMS Athletic Department is hosting an Athletic Physical night for any Middle or High school students who need a sports physical for the 2013-14 athletic seasons. It is on a “first come, first serve” basis.  Local physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners (about 12-20 will be on site) are donating their time for this fundraising event. All proceeds will go toward the SMS Athletic Department.

Please use the gym side entrance.

SMS will have current Athletic Physical Forms available.

We will not practice today, Tuesday, May 7 due to the rain.  JM and Easternview are suppose to play indoors so, we SHOULD be prepared to play one of them tomorrow. Please make sure everyone knows to be ready to play on Wednesday.  We will leave Courtland between 2:30-3:00 depending on where we have to go.  I will update the blog as I receive information so be sure to communicate this to everyone you see or have contact with!

In another cold match the boy's played a close match to visiting Chancellor losing 5-4.  In singles Marcus, Miguel and Troy all won and the doubles team of Marcus and Miguel added the final victory for the Cougars.
